Fair Housing Statement

Lieve does not discriminate, and does not permit operators to discriminate, in the advertising, showing, negotiation, or rental of any room. We support and comply with the Fair Housing Act, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended (42 U.S.C. §§ 3601 et seq.), which prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), national origin, familial status, or disability.

Listings in New York must comply with the New York State Human Rights Law and, in New York City, the New York City Human Rights Law, which extend protection to additional classes including age, marital status, military status, lawful source of income (including housing vouchers), gender identity or expression, immigration or citizenship status, and status as a victim of domestic violence. Listings in Jersey City must comply with the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, which protects classes including race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, nationality, age, sex, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, affectional or sexual orientation, marital or domestic partnership status, familial status, disability, source of lawful income, and military service.

Operators may not state a discriminatory preference, limitation, or requirement in a listing title, description, photo, or message; may not refuse to rent, steer, or apply different terms based on a protected class; and may not refuse a lawful source of income such as a Section 8 or CityFHEPS voucher where that protection applies. Screening criteria must be applied consistently to all applicants. Reasonable accommodations and modifications for people with disabilities, including assistance animals, must be considered as required by law.

You may also file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) at hud.gov/fairhousing, with the New York State Division of Human Rights, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, or the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights.
